Simone Giertz: Why you should make useless things
Simone Giertz makes a delightful YouTube channel wherein she designs and builds self-proclaimed “shitty robots.” Earlier today, TED Talks posted her talk from April of this year. It’s wonderful example of her work and enthusiasm, and explains why we shouldn’t be afraid to fail. As per the TED standard, it’s heartfelt, inspirational, and a lot of fun.

Anyone who knows me has undoubtedly heard me go on and on about CHVRCHES at some point. They have long been one of my absolute favorite bands. They recently performed an acoustic set on the Honda Stage at Power Station and in short, they nailed it. From their breakout hit Mother We Share, to a cover of Beyoncé’s XO, to two tracks from their forthcoming album Love Is Dead (Get Out and Never Say Die), every one of them is perfect.
It’s always exciting for me to see a stripped down version of songs I know and love come from such a talented band like CHVRCHES. If you only enjoy these half as much as I do, you’ll still be enthralled.
Everything — Daredevil season 2 ".380"
The second season of Daredevil on Netflix holds one my favorite scenes in TV history. And yes, I know Dardevil is a superhero crime drama, but don’t get hung up on that if you really want to enjoy life. In episode 11, called “.380,” Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) talks to Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) in an empty diner about, “people that hurt you,” and how they’re the most important people in your life.
SPOILER WARNING! If you haven’t watched season two of Daredevil yet, turn around and come back when you have.
Like most good stories, the lead up to this scene is everything. Up to this point Castle has been on a rampage, killing criminals because he has had everything important to him taken away during a drug deal gone bad. His wife and child were murdered at the hands of drug dealers and crooked cops. In their wake he’s cleaning up the streets in the only way a crazed, ex-special forces soldier would.
I’ve watched this clip over and over again and can’t seem to shake it.

Two Great TED Talks About Careers
I wasn’t even looking talks on career advise, but upon hitting the play button on Charlie Hoehn’s TEDx presentation I was hooked. YouTube was kind enough to offer the second gem from Jenny Blake after I finishing the first. If you want great career advise, don’t take it from me, but these two folks seem to have figured something out.
