Evernote

As anyone who is reading this knows without a doubt, I am a self professed geek and am on my computer a lot. Certain pieces of software are the reason why; Evernote is one of them. Evernote is what I would classify as memory organization software. It started for me as a place to horde all of the random articles and ideas that I had, and has morphed into where I store all of my notes, documents, stories, sketches and important photos. Where there used to be folders within folders and Word documents within those, there is now Evernote. It has single handedly replaced 90% of the file structure that I once maintained.

One of the best features of Evernote is it’s ubiquitous approach. It can be used on as many platforms and operating systems as you can think of. And once you have added a note to the Evernote system, it can be synced to all of your devices. So where I once had no access to my documents while on the road, now all I have to do is grab my iPhone and tap the Evernote button. As of this writing it is available for Mac OSX, Windows, iPhone / iPod Touch, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Palm, Windows Mobile, and just about any web browser.

Of course there is on other feature that definitely needs to be mentioned before I’m done here. It’s free! That’s right, as in it costs nothing. Their business model is simple, they give away their software in hopes that a few people will pay the $45 / year for some extra features, but without the professional account, the software is still fully capable.

All of these things make Evernote an essential piece of software in which I would not want to live without. My recommendation, download it now.
